Hive Provocation

Look at the interesting object that was shared with our class today!  An abandoned wasp nest!

Wow! The children were fascinated with how it looked and smelled. We displayed it at our science center along with some other materials - books, writing materials, and hexagon pattern blocks.

We also found a time lapsed video of wasps and bees making their hives.

The books also showed the hives up close and we learned about the lifecycle of a bee. They grow in cocoons like butterflies!

Some friends copied the pattern of the hives using the blocks.

Families, we welcome any artifacts of nature to support our exploration of science and the outdoors. Thank you for thinking of us!
